Revised Syllabus for January through April, 2016 (fixed for snow day)

January 15:

1. No test, no reading
2. Have three very strong choices for your research paper, three topics or theses. By the end of class today, you need to have chosen one and have a possible thesis statement.
  1. Review of old tests
  2. Lecture, the U. S. Constitution; how to gather sources

January 22:

      1. Story of the World, Book 4: Read for today pp. 1 – 35 (Chapters 1 to 3); test
      2. Bring to class your preliminary sources of information
      3. Lecture
      4. Instructions on how to take notes from sources; bibliographies
      5. Quiz game on previous tests as time permits

January 29:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 36 – 69 (Chapters 4 to 6) ; test
      2. Bring to class the note cards you have finished so far
      3. Lecture
      4. Work on note cards and sources
      5. Quiz game on previous tests as time permits

February 5:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 70 – 111 (Chapters 7 to 10) ; test
      2. Bring to class the note cards you have finished so far
      3. Lecture
      4. Work on notes cards and sources, bibliography
      5. Correct previous tests

February 12 (will have to be held at an alternate location, this class was added back in to make up for the snow day):

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 112 – 145 (Chapters 11– 13); test
      2. Bring in all note cards, completed, to be checked; turn in bibliography
      3. Lecture
      4. Lecture on outlines, start outlines


February 19:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 146 – 201 (Chapters 14 to 18); test
      2. Bring in completed outline to be checked
      3. Lecture; lecture on rough drafts
      4. Begin timeline

February 26:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 202 – 243 (Chapters 19 to 22); test
      2. Bring in start of rough draft
      3. Lecture; lecture on rough drafts, check drafts
      4. Correct tests; Quiz on old tests
March 4:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 244 – 267 (Chapters 23 to 24); test
      2. Bring in completed rough draft with outline, bibliography, and footnotes – turn in
      3. Lecture
      4. Finish timeline

March 11:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 268 – 338 (Chapters 25 to 30) (long); test
      2. Lecture
      3. Go over previous tests
      4. Quiz on previous tests as time permits
March 18:

      1. SOTW Book 4: pp. 339 – 408 (Chapters 31 – 36) (long); test
      2. Get corrected rough drafts back
      3. Lecture

March 25:

      1. Bring any questions about final paper
      2. SOTW Book 4: pp. 409 – 477 (Chapters 37– end); test
      3. Lecture
      4. correct previous tests

April 1:

      1. Turn in final draft; also submit electronic draft, if possible
        2.  Quiz using test questions from CLEP, SAT, etc.
